Acrylic on Canvas

In my painting "A Scholder to Lean On," I explore the theme of connection and support through the image of a bison. The warm yellows and dark browns, coupled with bold abstract marks, create a visual representation of the strength and resilience embodied by the bison.

Inspired by the work of Fritz Scholder, I incorporated his signature style of bold, expressive brushwork into the piece. While our subject material may differ, the abstract marks in my painting serve to render the bison in a unique and captivating way, inviting the viewer to consider the balance of the abstract and figure.

Through my work, I aim to create a space for contemplation and reflection, engaging the viewer to connect with the painting on a personal level and find their own meaning in its imagery. "A Scholder to Lean On" is not only a visual representation of the strength and resilience of the bison, but a reminder of the importance of finding the balance of the expected and unexpected.
